What do I do if my pet dies?
Please do not hesitate to contact us anytime day or night. We are here to help in any way we can. You can also request us through your veterinarian’s office. Every veterinarian is equipped to properly hold your pet until we arrive to pick him or her up for cremation (typically the same day). Have your veterinarian contact us directly for instructions and/or you can contact us directly at 231-421-1370 and provide us with your veterinarian’s information.

Will you pick up my pet?

Can I visit the facility where my pet’s cremation will be performed?
Yes, you are welcome to visit us anytime.
What types of pets can you cremate?
We can take your dogs, cats, iguanas, birds, horses*, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, mice, gerbils, rats, guinea pigs, farm pets*, goats, chickens, etc. Just ask.
How will my pet be stored while awaiting cremation?
Unlike other pet cremation alternatives in the area, we will NEVER store your pet in a chest freezer. Great Lakes Pet Memorial is the ONLY pet crematory in Northern Michigan with walk in cooler storage, exactly the same processes that are used for human cremation. Every pet that arrives here will receive their own un-compromised dignified space.
Will my pet be cremated individually?
Yes, we offer private cremation services. Your pet companion is placed by themselves in the crematorium during the cremation process. Your companion’s ashes are returned to you. To learn more about our cremation procedures, please click here.
What do I receive back?
A decorative paw print tin urn, pet loss poems, and a card is included with your grief package. You will get more from us than “just a box.” You may also choose from our wide selection of urns and keepsake boxes. Most of the time we can still get a good paw print before cremation takes place. If you would like a paw print taken, please be sure to let us know as soon as possible. We can include your pet’s name and the year with our special clay stamps. We can also make the print as an ornament for you.
How will I be sure this is my pet’s remains?
Please visit our page on Pet Cremation Procedures.
How long does cremation take?
The cremation itself can range from 1 hour to 4 hours depending on the size of your pet. Smaller pets will take less time than larger pets. Your pet’s cremation will take place within 1-3 days of arrival depending on how busy we are.
Do you sell monuments?
Yes, we offer a full Pet Memorial Store. You will find granite markers, memory boxes, urns, custom urns, caskets, jewelry, engraved river rocks, picture frames, paintings, DVD movie tributes, LifeGem Diamonds, memory glass, pottery, clay paw prints, gifts under $30, sympathy cards, and much more.
